After more than a year of planning, October 1, 1993 was the official first day of business for Evansville Sports and Lawn, Inc. The small engines sales and service department, formerly part of Ostrom’s Hardware, was now a newly formed corporation. The new owners, Shane Englund and Chuck Steffenson, both previous employees of Vern Ostrom, operated their business for the first two weeks out of the Hardware building until the remodeling and showroom addition was complete on the old Carlson Construction building just east of the Hardware store.
In 1993 the business was a dealership for a variety of manufacturers, which includes Yamaha, Polaris, Snapper, Toro, Echo, Jonsered, and Sledbed trailers. The service department not only serviced the brands they sold, but many other brands of small engine equipment. Over the years, lots of changes have taken place at Evansville Sports, including the appearance of the 1957 building. In 1994 a 36x80 storage shed was built Northeast of the store. In 1995 the showroom was expanded by another 600 square feet. In 2003 the entire brick building was recovered with steel siding complete with a new roof, insulation, new windows and new overhead doors. In 2006 they expanded their service department by adding onto the building an additional service bay.
Evansville Sports and Lawn today is now a single line Yamaha dealer for motor sports products. They carry the Hustler mowers for lawn care equipment. They also still carry Jonsered and Echo for trimmers and chainsaws. They no longer sell the Sled Bed trailer, but now are a dealer for Bear Track trailers. Their service department has expanded greatly in the past 25 years. They are now in strong demand for boat motor service work, as well as the ATVs, motorcycles, lawnmowers and saws that they always serviced.
Evansville Sports & Lawn has over 25 years of experience in service and are a Yamaha 5 Star Certified Dealership.
